More about the Yarnsmith's Tavern Yard Tales.A telling of tall tales and lusty lies in a manner most uncommon for these times, but once enjoyed by all goodwives and honest jacks with no guarantees of satisfaction hereby given. Tavern Yard Tales is an evening of adult storytelling inspired the darker side of Tudor times and told by Dave Tonge, aka, The Yarnsmith of Norwich. It’s a collection of traditional folk tales that show us that people long ago laughed at many of the same things we do today. These are the stories shared in tavern yards, market places and anywhere else that folk gathered long ago. Folktales that were later collected in ‘chapbooks’; the cheap print of the period. Stories about the 'common sort’ - from wise and witty women to lazy, tardy gaited bed pressers and coney-catching cunning men - the tricksters and beguilers of the gullible who plied their trade in the very alehouses where the tales were so often told.
Please note this event will be held in the Fire and Feast Tipi which we put up inside our campers barn from mid October so you can experience all of the cosy atmosphere with none of the Autumn chill! However we still recommend you come with some warm layers for later in the evening.
