About the Course
There are so many wonderful plants around us that can be used to bring new
interest to our everyday meals as well as being a sustainable and free resource.
This full day workshop will provide you with an introduction to both foraging and woodfire cooking.
Plan for the day...
After introductions, coffee and cake, Vivia Bamford from Sciapod Foray, will lead our foraging walk around the farm and local area to collect our hedgerow
ingredients for the day. As we walk, we will spend our time thinking about the
dos and don’ts of foraging, taking a tactile, storytelling and sharing approach to
identifying plants of interest, covering everything from folklore, and traditional
medicine, to food uses of the plants around us.
We will then return to the outdoor kitchen in the tranquil Fire and Feast herb
garden for hands-on wood fire cooking using the versatile Roadii grills to
prepare a light lunch and two course supper with our foraged ingredients. We
will also provide you with additional ingredients and garnishes made in advance
of the day with other foraged plants.
We will begin with fire lighting. Once fires are lit, we will spend our time grilling,
roasting and baking, in, on and over the fire in our secluded garden. With a
combination of demonstrations and hands-on cookery you will prepare a variety of tasty treats, culminating in a final meal shared in our dining tipi. There will be time for questions and conversations and an opportunity to savour the beautiful Suffolk countryside as you cook and dine.
Come dressed suitably for the outdoors. On site parking available.
Special dietary requirements can be catered for if advised in advance.
Your full day experience will include:
Freshly made hot drinks and a sweet treat on arrival and mid afternoon
All equipment and ingredients and an apron for use during your time with us
Light lunch and early evening three course meal with a selection of drinks

adventures at home
Vivia grew up, the daughter of a farmer in the West Country but has lived in
Suffolk for over 40 years, her motto in life is ‘Stay curious, there is always
something new to learn'. When Vivia was younger, she was frequently asked if
she’d been dragged through a hedge backwards as her hair was always a mess
and full of twigs – as a lifelong forager, she hasn’t changed much! She also has
an interest in artisan cheeses and is currently researching the lost cheeses of
Suffolk.
Judith is co-founder of Fire and Feast Suffolk and is the resident cook for our
Saturday night suppers and Sunday brunch café. She also grows the onsite
produce for the kitchen. She has been a fire cook for many years and enjoys
experimenting with all types of fire cookery, so expect much more than a
traditional BBQ!
